Mixed-Strategy Equilibrium
A game-theory solution in which a party's optimal approach is to randomize between multiple actions rather than commit to any single one predictably.
In many games, no single, pure course of action is optimal if the other player can anticipate and exploit it. A mixed-strategy equilibrium arises when each party's best response is to play a probability mix over several available actions, chosen so that the other player is left indifferent between their own available responses, which is what makes the equilibrium stable rather than exploitable.
Litigation offers real analogues: a party deciding how often to take an aggressive discovery posture versus a cooperative one, or how often to file a motion with marginal merit versus reserve resources, can behave unpredictably by design so that opposing counsel cannot reliably anticipate and counter every move.
